Netflix has released the trailer for “Copenhagen Cowboy”, a new series by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (“Drive” and “Neon Demon”), which will premiere next Friday (9/9) at the Venice Film Festival .
Without dialogue, the preview highlights the director’s well-known style, who has only begun to sign NWR. There are many scenes with neon lights, static characters and bloody violence, to the sound of an electronic soundtrack. The result is typically more like a fashion video than an imaginary trailer.
“Copenhagen Cowboy” is the director’s first production shot in his native Denmark in 15 years, and has been officially described as a “noir series … full of neon”.
The neon noir plot revolves around a young heroine named Miu (Angela Bundalovic, from “The Rain”) navigating the criminal underworld of Copenhagen.
The cast also highlights newcomers Lola Winding Refn and Lizzielou Winding Refn (director’s daughters), as well as Zlatko Buric (“2012”), Mikael Bertelsen (“Superclásico”) and Per Thiim Thim (“Anti”).
“Copenhagen Cowboy” is the second series in Refn’s career, which in 2019 released the little-seen “Too Old to Die Young”, starring Miles Teller (“Top Gun: Maverick”), on Amazon Prime Video.
