Jamel Debussy replaces Pierre Richards in Francis Weber’s remake of the popular 70s comedy. Discover the trailer for James Hutt’s The New Toy, also starring Daniel Ott and Alice Bellaid.
This iconic comedy from the 1970s is getting its remake! Here’s the trailer for New Toy with Jamel Debuz and Daniel O’Teil. This is a new adaptation of Toys, Francis Weber’s hit film, originally starring Pierre Richard and Michel Bouquet.
The 1976 version of Toys was the original screenplay and adaptation of Francis Weber, in which a journalist (Pierre Richard) finds himself becoming a “man-toy” at the whim of a child whose father cannot refuse him anything. This father (Michel Bouquet), an important businessman, is very busy and shows his love for his son only through lavish gifts. But when she proposes to Francois Perrin, she doesn’t know that the latter will help the child (Fabre Greco) free himself from his father…
The plot has evolved a bit, and this is what it looks like today for this version of 2022: Sami lives happily in a suburban estate with friends, neighbors and his wife Alice. On his son’s birthday, the richest man in France opens a department store that he owns. Alexander chooses Sami, the night watchman, as his new toy… Screenplay by James Huth and Sonia Shillito, in collaboration with Mohamed Hamid and Jamel Debuz. The film is directed by James Huth (Brice de Nice).
In the credits surrounding the Debbouze – Auteuil tandem, we meet Simon Faleau, who plays the role of the little boy at the center of the film. We have already seen him several times in the cinema, in Le Trésor du Petit Nicolas (2021) and Les Blagues de Toto (2020). Also in the cast is Alice Bellaid.
For an anecdote, remember that Daniel Otay is no stranger to the world of Francis Weber: in the past he played François Pignon in Le Placard and was also in the cast of La Doublure.
The new toy will be released on October 19, 2022.
