The original Hobbit artists from the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy have joined in a demonstration of support for the “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” series based on the franchise. Elijah Wood, Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd posed together in matching T-shirts, illustrated with ear prints of various magical creatures from JRR Tolkien’s work, all in different colors, while Sean Astin appeared in an individual photo wearing a cap with the same design.

Published on the actors’ social networks, the photos were accompanied by a short and meaningful caption: “You are all welcome”.

The message is an anti-racism reaction from a group of rowdy fanatics, who have even launched a campaign to sabotage the series’ rating on public review sites. On Metacritic, the audience rating reached 1.9 (out of 10) versus 71% of critical approval, while on Rotten Tomatoes the difference reached 37% of audience approval versus 84% of critics.

Without bothering to hide their motivation, those who are not satisfied with the series make it clear how their own skin is the comments loaded with heavy references to the race of some characters (black and Latin) and the decision to give the spotlight to a woman (Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark).

The comments call Galadriel “Karen”, a nickname created by “incel” men to “complain” women, and complain about the inclusion of “all minorities” in the plot, stating that there were no dark elves and Latinos in the story. Tolkien’s work nor in the movie they adapted “The Lord of the Rings”. For these, the fantasy Middle Earth is based on medieval Europe, where the population was predominantly white, and the series does not include any other races in the story. Europe didn’t even have dragons, elves or orcs, but that’s a detail in the racist argument.

In addition to a dark Latin elf (Ismael Cruz Cordova), there is a black hobbit / hairy foot (Lenny Henry), a black princess (Sophia Nomvete) and a black queen (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), among other non-white characters in Amazon’s Billion Dollar Production.

In addition to the photo, the original hobbits are supporting an online store where fans can buy their own t-shirts with their own t-shirt design, as well as hoodies and other items with the same graphic, with 50% of all proceeds go to a charity that supports “people of color”.

“The Rings of Power” premiered shortly after “House of the Dragon” was also criticized for featuring black actors and actress Moses Ingram was hated for her participation in the series “Obi. -Wan Kenobi “. What these attacks show is that racism has become a serious problem in the geek community that can no longer be ignored or tolerated.
