Chadwick Boseman posthumously won his first Emmy Award. for best voice-over performance for his character in the Marvel animated series ‘What if…?’. The recognition comes more than two years after the death of the protagonist of ‘Black Panther’.
Along with him were his partner in ‘What if…?’ Jeffrey Wrightalso deceased Jessica Walter (‘archer’), Maya Rudolf (‘Big Mouth’), Stanley Tucci (‘Central Park’), Julie Andrews (‘The Bridgertons’) and F.Murray Abraham (‘Moon Knight’).
Taylor Simone Ledward, Boseman’s wife, accepted the award on his behalf and gave us an emotional acceptance speech:
“When I found out that Chad was nominated, I started thinking about everything that was going on in our world and was amazed by their commitment and dedication, and what a beautiful moment that one of the last things he worked on was something so important to him and to the world, but also something new. You can’t understand your purpose unless you ask and yes…? What if the universe is conspiring in my favor? What if it’s me? Chad would be very honored and I am honored on his behalf..”
Before this Emmy, Boseman had received a number of posthumous awards and nominations for his roles in “The Mother of Blues” and “Da 5 Bloods: Brothers in Arms.”going on to win the Golden Globe for best male performance in the drama category for the first, as well as being Oscar nominee for Best Actor.
‘What if…?’ will return with a second season in 2023, and the third is already confirmed. The sequel ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ will try to recover after the loss of its protagonist looking for a new Black Panther (everything indicates that it will be female) with its premiere on November 11, 2022.
