In recent years, Peppa Pig is undoubtedly one of the favorite cartoons of children. Created in 2004 by Neville Astley and Mark Baker, it features the adventures of Peppa Pig, who loves to laugh and jump with both feet in puddles of mud. The baby is always surrounded by his little brother Giorgi Ghori and his parents.
The hugely popular British cartoon aired a new episode this Tuesday, September 6, on Channel Five, introducing a couple from the LGBTQ+ community for the first time. Indeed, Penny the polar bear introduced Peppa to her two mothers: “I live with my mother and my second mother– he explained with a picture. “My mother is a doctor, and my mother cooks spaghetti.“
The creators decided to add a homosexual couple Petition from 2019 which called for the inclusion of same-sex parents in the cartoon. However, it took over 23,000 signatures to convince them:
“Children who watch Peppa Pig are at an impressionable age, and excluding same-sex parents risks teaching them that only single-parent families and mixed-sex parent families are normal.“- they added.
Since its creation, Peppa Pig has been exported to more than 180 countries, in particular, it is already available in the Netflix catalog. Therefore, creating a same-sex family is a huge victory for the signatories, who still had to wait three years before winning the case.
Peppa Pig airs on France 5. It is also available in its entirety on France TV and Netflix.
