Did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine? Pine’s representative denies the incident occurred, calling such claims “a ridiculous story.”. Social media went wild following the world premiere of Olivia Wilde’s sophomore feature ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ at the Venice Film Festival, where videos shot from inside the theater showed Styles apparently spitting on Pine, although the act could not be confirmed 100%. The videos of both actors garnered more than 1.4 million views.
“This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of a strange online illusion that is clearly misleading and allows for foolish speculation“, Pine’s rep said in a statement to Variety. “Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion to the contrary is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply doesn’t exist.“.
A source close to the Venice Film Festival told Variety that there was no tension surrounding Styles and Pine during the premiere and that no one flagged a possible spitting incident during the event. Variety also contacted Styles’ rep.
The alleged Styles-Pine incident was the latest chapter in a compendium of controversies during the promotion of the film, which has been battling rumors for weeks about an alleged feud between director Olivia Wilde and lead star Florence Pugh. The director and actress did not pose together on the red carpet at the Mostra, nor did they hug or look at each other long after the screening ended and the Venice audience gave the film a four-minute standing ovation.
“Florence is a force”Wilde said at the film’s press conference in Venice when asked to “clear the air” about the rumours. “We are very grateful that he was able to make it tonight (on the red carpet) despite being in the production of ‘Dune’. I know, as a director, how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day, so I am very grateful to her and to [el director de ‘Dune’] Denis Villeneuve for helping us. And we can celebrate his work tonight. I can’t tell you how honored I am to have her as our lead. She is amazing”.
Wilde added: “As for all the endless gossip in the press and all the noise out there, the Internet feeds on itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute; I think he’s well nourished enough.”
