The episode aired Tuesday 6 in the UK; the characters are the mothers of the polar bear Penny

The children’s cartoon “Peppa Pig”, aimed at children aged 2-5, featured its first LGBTQIA + couple in an episode that aired on Tuesday 6 in the UK.
The new characters are the mothers of the polar bear Penny.
In the episode entitled “Families”, Penny, colleague of the protagonist Peppa, tells of having two mothers. She draws her family and paints two polar bears wearing women’s clothes.
“I’m Penny Polar Bear. I live with my mom and my other mom. One mom is a doctor and one mom cooks spaghetti. I love spaghetti,” says Penny in the scene.
The introduction of a lesbian couple into the children’s program was a reflection of an initiative that is already three years old. A fan petition was created in 2019, calling for “a same-sex parenting family in ‘Peppa'”.
The text of the petition read: “Children who watch ‘Peppa’ are of an impressionable age, and the exclusion of same-sex families will teach them that only single-parent or two-parent families of different sexes are normal.”
“This means that children of same-sex parents may feel alienated from ‘Peppa’ and that other children may be more likely to mistreat them, simply out of ignorance,” the petition states.
In 18 years of production, this is the first time that a same-sex couple has appeared in an episode of the animation, which airs in 180 countries and has already been translated into 40 languages.
