Actress Catherine Keener (“Get Out!”) Has joined the cast of “Joker: Folie à Deux”, the sequel to “Joker”. Her role has not been revealed, but according to Deadline she will be of great importance in the plot.
The sequel to the 2019 blockbuster will once again see actor Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. In addition to the couple, Zazie Beetz is expected to return as Sophie, Arthur Fleck / Joker’s neighbor, and Brendan Gleeson (from the “Harry Potter” franchise) will play another unknown role in the production.
Director Todd Phillips is also back behind the camera, which will turn on in December, with the aim of being released in theaters in October 2024, exactly five years after the first film.
The name “Folie à Deux” refers to a French medical term used to define a mental disorder that affects two or more people at the same time.
In addition to this plot clue, Lady Gaga’s presence as Harley Quinn indicates that the story will address the Joker’s treatment and the obsession developed by his psychiatrist, who literally falls madly in love with him.
Another detail is that the production must be presented as a musical.
The First Joker was the highest-grossing adult film of all time (“R” rating in the US), grossing over $ 1 billion worldwide. In addition to Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar, the film also won an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences trophy for Hildur Guðnadóttir’s score.
