The Walt Disney Studios have published on social networks the poster and the first image of the characters of “Elements” (Elemental), Pixar animation scheduled for next year. Unveiled at D23, the Disney convention to be held this weekend in California, the artwork highlights the two protagonists, who represent the elements of fire and water.
The plot revolves around this unlikely duo, Ember and Wade, who live in a city where the elements of fire, water, earth and air coexist. In the cartoon, the bubbly young woman and the watery boy embark on a journey to discover something elementary: how much they really have in common.
The characters will be voiced by Leah Lewis (“Nancy Drew”) and Mamoudou Athie (“File 81”).
“Elemental” was conceived and directed by director Peter Sohn (“The Good Dinosaur”). “Our story is based on the classic elements: fire, water, earth and air,” he explained in a note. “Some of these elements mix with each other, others don’t. What if these elements are alive?”
In the same statement, he said the story was inspired by his childhood in New York, when he lived with many different people. “My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and opened a busy grocery store in the Bronx,” she said. “We were among the many families who ventured into a new land with hopes and dreams – we all merged together in a large vessel of cultures, languages and beautiful little neighborhoods.”
The release of “Elemental” is scheduled for June 2023 in theaters.
