Marvel has announced the villain that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), the new Captain America, will face in the movie “Captain America: New World Order”. And he will be an old acquaintance of the fans.

Taking advantage of D23, Disney’s annual convention, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced this Saturday (9/10) the return of Tim Blake Nelson (“Watchmen”) after 14 years as Samuel Sterns, a role he has starring in “The Incredible Hulk”.

If the name Sterns doesn’t carry many memories, perhaps it is clearer to remember that one of the forgotten connections at the end of the 2008 film was the transformation of the character into The Leader. The villain is one of the more traditional enemies of the Hulk, who will finally have a chance to appear after the transformation for gamma-ray poisoning in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).

“I’m happy, it’s an honor to be back, because Marvel is part of the history of cinema,” said the actor as he took the stage.

The cast will also include the return of characters Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez) and Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly), seen in “The Hawk and the Winter Soldier,” and will mark the introduction of Sabra, played by Israeli Shira Haas ( “Unorthodox”).

Coincidentally (or not), Sabra also appeared in the Hulk comics. Created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema in 1980, she is a super strong and super fast mutant who works with the Mossad (Israeli secret service).

Also present at the event, the director of the feature film, Julius Onah (“The Cloverfield Paradox”), spoke about the cast and the feature film, which will start shooting only next year. “This is an incredible group and it’s going to be a wild movie with brutal action scenes,” he promised.

The screenplay, in turn, is written by Malcolm Spellman, the creator of the series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”. He is working on the script along with Dalan Musson, who also wrote episodes of the series. With this, the film tends to be a direct continuation of the production shown on Disney +.

The premiere is scheduled for May 2, 2024 in Brazil, one day before the US release.
