With 6,485,173 admissions in France this weekend, “Top Gun: Maverick” becomes Tom Cruise’s biggest hit in France, overtaking “Rain Man.”
Winner of 4 Oscars (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Dustin Hoffman and Best Original Screenplay), “Rain Man” follows Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise), a busy businessman who inherits an old Buick after his father dies. Robbed of 3 million francs paid to Walbrook Psychiatric Institute for his brother Raymond, an autistic scientist. The one he called the Rain Man as a child and who represents his only happy memories.
Out in theaters May 25, Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick continues its stellar run, surpassing Rain Man by 11,000 additional viewers in a single weekend.
Top Gun Marathon
On June 18, Top Gun: Maverick became the biggest success of Tom Cruise’s career worldwide, grossing over $800 million. The spot previously held by Mission: Impossible – Fallout ($791 million) in 2018.
So far, Top Gun 2 has grossed $1.45 billion worldwide!
To celebrate this record, Paramount organizes Top Gun Marathons. From September 28, most cinemas in France will have sessions consisting of Tony Scott’s Top Gun (1986) in a 4K remastered version, followed by Top Gun: Maverick.
