Sony Pictures has released the national poster and first trailer for “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”, a biopic about singer Whitney Houston, played on screen by Naomi Ackie (Jannah from “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”).
The preview prioritizes the star’s early career and her relationship with executive Clive Davis, who cast her to stardom and appears almost unrecognizable in the performance of Stanley Tucci (“Convention of the Witches” ).
Despite images showing a cheerful Whitney on the road to success, the star’s career has had many ups and downs, interspersing several musical successes with a tumultuous marriage and a notorious drug involvement.
The screenplay is by Anthony McCarten, who divided opinions by taking numerous liberties on the life of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Stella Meghie (“The Photography”) is directing.
“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” will debut on December 21 in the US, but only on February 2 in Brazil.
