Stranger Things: Star of the series in the Gran Turismo video game adaptation

David Harbor, Sheriff Hopper’s translator in “Stranger Things,” has landed the lead role in the film adaptation of the video game “Gran Turismo,” directed by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9”).

Marvel (Black Widow and soon Thunderbolts). DC (Suicide Squad). James Bond (Quantum of Solace). StrangerThings. And now a video game on the big screen. David Harbor continues to rack up pop culture milestones in his filmography, and he recently landed a starring role in the film adaptation of Gran Turismo, which will be directed by District 9 dad Neill Blomkamp.

Released in 1997, the first video game opus quickly established itself as the Playstation’s flagship title, while also being a driving simulation. A status that is still his as the seventh episode was released in March 2022. Its success is still relevant, and it is in this context that its transposition from the big screen to the second one is.

Expected to hit French cinemas on August 9, 2023, Gran Turismo will play the mise en abyme card. And a true story, as we follow a teenage fan of video games (Archie Madekeve) who manages to become a real-life racing driver. Special thanks to the ex-pilot played by David Harbour. An approach that would allow the feature film to have a real story and maybe even allow it to have a positive impact on the games through its characters.

All this, imagine, with beautiful racing scenes that benefit from the talents of Neill Blomkamp. If the latter remains on the project, the one who has abandoned more than completed in recent years.
