Director Fernando Grostein Andrade (“Abe”) made his new documentary, “Quebrando Mitos” available on YouTube this Friday (16/9).
The title indicates a conceptual continuation of “Quebrando o Tabu” (2011), in which the director tackled the anti-drug policy with testimonies from former presidents, such as Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. This time around, the issue is the threat from the far right.
The feature, which has a screenplay by Carol Pires, takes the point of view of an LGBTQIA + couple – the same director and actor-singer Fernando Siqueira – on Jair Bolsonaro’s “catastrophic and fragile masculinity,” according to the official synopsis.
The production was motivated by anonymous threats received by Andrade, after criticizing Bolsonaro’s homophobia. Thus, the film collects the violent speeches of the president and reflects on the impact of his policies on the Brazilian people, highlighting, according to the synopsis, “the resistance to fascism in Brazil”.
“Breaking Myths” can be viewed in its entirety below.
