France 3 broadcasts this Saturday evening “Secrets of the Duchess”, detective fiction with Laurie Pester and Jeremy Banster. Were the critics convinced by the telefilm?
What is it about?
Cyril Le Goff was doing his tai chi in Manor Park when he was brutally murdered. Trained in shamanic techniques in Tibet, this doctor shocked the entire region when he married Duchess Louise de Crémieux a year earlier…thirty years his senior.
Maud Arthuis, a gendarmerie captain who is more than eight months pregnant and who lost her husband shortly after learning of the pregnancy, was entrusted with the investigation. She receives the unexpected help of Lucien Labegère, a private detective commissioned by the Duchess’s daughter, Estelle, who is convinced that her mother is a victim of abuse of her weakness.
Who killed Kirill? Louis’s daughter? The hunters whom Kirill stopped from hunting on the palace grounds? Kirill’s ex-girlfriend? The ruler of the palace? Maud and Lucien are not completely surprised. A series of investigations will lead them to believe their painful lives… when a new murder occurs.
Secrets of the Duchess directed by Emmanuel Dubergay and written by Philippe Le Dame and Lorenzo Gabriele.
With Laurie Pester, Jeremy Banster, Ludmila Mikael, Danielle LeBrun, Elisa Servier, Patrick Reynal, Vanessa Liote, Eric Savin, Kenza Saib-Couton, Nicolas Van Beveren…
This Saturday, September 17, at 9:10 p.m. on France 3
What does the press think?
According to Télé Loisirs:
“A duchess, a palace, a family feud: the elements combine to make for a good time on TV. Although the plot leads us to a large number of suspects, Ludmila Mikael’s charisma compensates for the classic and predictable thriller narrative scheme.” 3.5/5
According to Télé 7 Jours:
“Like any good self-respecting TV cop movie, this story has many twists and turns. More than the story, though, it’s primarily the duo of Laurie Pester and Jeremy Banster that carries this rather beautiful TV movie..” 3/5
According to TV Star:
“A well-constructed plot and actors who excel in nuanced acting.” 3/5
According to TV Cable Sat:
“Despite the explanatory dialogues and borrowed staging, this TV movie is quite successful. There is an emotion.” 3/5
According to Telerama:
“Emmanuelle Duberge once again embraces France 3’s Saturday night thriller codes: family secrets, unspoken, a duo of investigators with tortured pasts and relatively believable twists, all set in the natural setting of the provinces. No less, no more.” 2.5/5
