Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: Tom Hanks on Desert Island.
In 1994, Robert Zemeckis directed Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump – a successful collaboration that won 6 Oscars, including Best Director and Best Actor. Six years later, the two men reunite in the world alone.
Tom Hanks plays Chuck Noland, a FedEx employee stranded on an uninhabited island after his plane crashes in the South Pacific. The film chronicles his survival efforts, as well as his imaginary friendship with a volleyball player he calls Wilson.
It’s hard not to be moved by this amazing Robinsonade, for which the actor lost more than 20 kilos and grew hair and a beard. A performance that earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama.
Note that Robert Zemeckis hired his favorite actor a few years later for The Polar Express, and that they recently reunited for a live-action adaptation of Pinocchio for Disney+, in which Tom Hanks reprises his role as Geppetto.
