Director Martin Scorsese (“The Irishman”) has been praised for the film “Pearl”, the prelude to “X – The Mark of Death” (2022). In a comment posted to the A24 studio and posted on the SlashFilm website, the veteran director called the horror “deeply disturbing”, “mesmerizing” and “savage”.
Scorsese’s praise is not limited to this film, but to director Ti West’s entire career. “Ti West’s films have a kind of energy that’s so rare these days, fueled by a pure, undiluted love of cinema. You feel it in every frame.”
The veteran director also talked about the differences between this film and its predecessor, defining “Pearl” as “a prelude to ‘X – The Mark of Death’ made in a diametrically opposite cinematic register (think of the melodramas of the 1950s in colorful scope), ‘Pearl’ is a wild, mesmerizing, deeply – and I mean deeply – disturbing 102 minutes. “
