Stephen Lang, the villain of the first Avatar, will return in the second episode, The Way of the Water, which is scheduled for December 14. AlloCiné was able to exchange a few words with the actor during D23!
In 2009’s Avatar, big bad Miles Quaritch, played by Stephen Lang, swiped a gun to the left, riddled with Neytiri arrows.
Released last May, the first trailer for the second film, The Way of the Water, revealed the return of that iconic bad boy…in the skin of a boat!
Those who were bitterly hated by these people are now part of them. How does history explain this? What will be Quaritch’s goal in this second feature film? Will he always be our heroes’ enemy or now an ally?
“Stephen Lang was so great in the first movie, it’s a privilege to have him back. I’m not going to say how we plan to bring him back, but at the end of the day, this is science fiction. His character will develop unexpectedly during this new period. Trilogy.”James Cameron said in 2013.
Last July, Stephen Lang explained this “Quaritch was taller, bluer, and still angry. But he’s more humble. When you get two arrows in the chest from a boat, it affects you.”– he emphasized with some malice at the microphoneEmpire.
Miles Quaritch is one of my greatest achievements.
During D23, Disney’s event that took place from September 9 to 11, AlloCiné was able to speak briefly with the 70-year-old actor, who was happy to return to the Avatar franchise.
“Like the public, I couldn’t wait any longer! I even wondered if I would see the saga continue in my lifetime.”Stephen Lang jokes. “The character of Miles Quaritch is one of my greatest achievements as an actor”he continues.
The world of Avatar is part of my DNA.
“It’s such a big undertaking that there’s always going to be something creative, and I’m really happy to be a part of that creative process again. So, in a certain way I feel like the world of Avatar is part of my DNA.”The actor concludes with a smile.
While you wait for Avatar: The Last Airbender on December 14th, you can (re)watch the first installment, which hits theaters on September 21st.
