Last night, TF1 aired the first episodes of its long-awaited mini-series Les Combattantes, hosted by Audrey Fleuro, Julie de Bona, Camille Lou and Sofia Esaid, actors well known to viewers. This new fiction in eight episodes is directed by Alexandre Laurent (already in the saga Le bazar de la charité) and co-written by Cécile Lorne (Murder in Amiens) and Camille Trainor (Julia).
The series takes place during the First World War, more precisely in September 1914, when the battle is raging in a small village in eastern France. And a few kilometers from the German zone, four women find themselves in the heart of horror.
Marguerite (Audrey Fleuro) is a mysterious and funny Parisian prostitute suspected of espionage, and Carolina (Sophia Esaid) is the wife of Victor Dewitt, the owner of a car factory who went to the front.
Agnes (Julie de Bona) is the superior of a requisitioned convent and a mother converted into a military hospital. As for Susan (Camille Lou), she’s a young feminist nurse on the run after an abortion gone wrong.
These strong characters are inspired by the historical reality of conflict and also show the indispensable role of women in society. Les Combattantes is an ambitious mini-series with an interesting narrative, but also a five-star cast that brings together actors and actresses appreciated by the public. However, was it enough to keep the audience interested?
The series got off to a very good start despite Canal+ cutting off the signal for the TF1 group of channels in its offerings and on the TNT Sat service. The first two episodes of Les Combattantes did gather an average of 5.11 million viewers, giving TF1 the lead in the audience for Love is the meadow, according to Médiamétrie.
The mini-series of the event reached 26% of the public and 29% of female buyers managers under fifty (FRDA-50), which is a very good score. In comparison, Charity Bazaar in November 2019 gathered no less than 6.77 million viewers during its launch, in a completely different context.
The newly invented event therefore launched successfully, despite the problems TF1 is facing with distributor Canal+. It remains to be seen if the community will be there for the next few weeks of the show.
Find Les Combattantes on Mondays at 21:10 on TF1 and repeats on MYTF1 and Salto.
