Actor Cillian Murphy, star of the costume series “Peaky Blinders”, commented and presented a theory about the success of the production.
“Peaky Blinders” follows a gangster family after WWI. Set in Birmingham, the gang is loosely based on a royal gang of the same name. The original Peaky Blinders were active in the city between 1880 and 1910. In the series, the Shelby family is led by Tommy, a war-torn man who faces severe trauma.
Tommy Shelby is one of the most fascinating characters on television. He is ambitious, dangerous, unpredictable, intelligent and a natural strategist, always looking to get what he wants.
Many fans of the series believe that Cillian Murphy and her character are the reasons why “Peaky Blinders” is so successful. But in an interview with BBC iPlayer (via Cutting film) the actor presented a different theory and points to something the series did that is different from the others: “Peaky Blinders” mythologized the working class.
“She really touched my heart [do público], touched on something that hadn’t been done before, certainly on British television, which mythologized the working class. The UK has done many aristocracy series, [mas] he has never done a costume series about the working class ”.
But, of course, there is another theme in the series that makes it a success: people’s fascination with the mafia. And Murphy touched on this pop culture interest in the subject.
“So people love gangsters, don’t they?” The actor said. “Because gangsters live this cold life outside of our moral code, and it’s quite unique, seductive and intriguing.”
“Peaky Blinders” was created by Steven Knight and his final season arrived this year. But even though Tommy Shelby’s story is over, there is a movie in the universe of the series in development.
All six seasons of Peaky Blinders are available on Netflix.
