The medical series of the “Chicago” franchise surprised its viewers in the premiere of its 8th season, which aired Wednesday night (21/9) in the United States. The episode revealed the departure of two regular cast members and the return of a character who had already said goodbye to the series.

Outgoing actors are Guy Lockard and Sarah Rafferty, who played Dr. Dylan Scott and Dr. Pamela Blake, respectively. And who comes back is Yaya DaCosta, who plays nurse April Sexton, who left the show in 2021 after six seasons.

In the season 8 premiere, Dr. Scott chose to quit his job at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center after the death of Jo (Riley Voelkel), an undercover cop he was romantically involved with last season, who died. at the emergency room.

With a power of attorney to decide what to do, Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) was forced to make a difficult decision. In an interview with Variety, showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov said that despite these results, the characters may return in the future. “If the characters are alive, they can return,” Frolov summed up.

The other big surprise during the premiere came when Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) went to visit his father’s memorial and came face to face with April. The previously engaged couple broke up after a very difficult relationship that lasted several seasons.
April’s character left the series in 2021, as actress Yaya DaCosta was invited to star in Fox’s “Our Kind of People” series. But that drama was canceled after a season.
With her availability, the producers decided to save her to end April and Ethan’s relationship. “We never got to finish it. We really wanted a conclusion, so we got in touch to see if she would come back for that,” Frolov said, noting that DaCosta will be in a few episodes this season.
Schneider added that DaCosta was “very excited” to return. “He wanted to honor this character and bring a solution to April’s relationship with Ethan.”
