Fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has completed the first screenplay draft for the feature film adaptation of his novel Mistborn at Apple TV.
The American writer cautioned fans against expecting an immediate release date, noting that the project remains in an early stage of development and will require extensive revision before entering production.
Apple TV secured the rights to Sanderson's fantasy universe as part of an effort to build major book-to-screen adaptations. The completed script represents a significant milestone for the cinematic project, which has been in planning following the acquisition of the literary property.
Sanderson addressed the timeline for the movie during a recent video update on his official YouTube channel. The author explained that he does not want to generate false expectations about when the film will arrive in cinemas or on streaming platforms.

Although the completion of the first draft marks concrete progress, Sanderson indicated that the development process is expected to slow down while he receives notes and creative input from executives at Apple TV.
In his YouTube update, the author stated that feedback on the initial script is ongoing. He projects that the screenplay will undergo at least three further full revisions before a final shooting script is established.

Unlike the Mistborn project, which is planned as a feature film, The Stormlight Archive is being developed as an episodic television series. The planned first season will consist of ten episodes.
The Stormlight Archive book series currently features five main published novels, beginning with the 2010 book The Way of Kings. Apple TV has not set an official release date for either the Mistborn movie or The Stormlight Archive television series.
