After 4 on Prime Video: Why fans will be so surprised

Available on Prime Video, Next Chapter 4 marks a turning point in the relationship between Tessa and Hardin. Here’s what awaits you in this fourth installment.

Tessa and Hardin are back for a new chapter of After! The fourth installment, After Ever Happy, is available on Prime Video from this Friday, September 23. The tumultuous love story between the two lovers, played by Josephine Langford and hero Fiennes Tiffin, takes a major step forward in this new film that fans should celebrate.

Tessa and Hardin are at a crossroads: Should Tessa work to save Hardin and their relationship, or is it time to save her? After his mother’s wedding, Hardin stays in London and gets even darker, while Tessa returns to Seattle and deals with the tragedy. If they want their love to survive, they will have to work on themselves first. Will their paths lead to each other?

Chapter 4, which stands out in the saga

Next: Chapter 4 sounds like a “coming of age movie” for Tessa and Hardin. And it was time! Between betrayals, family secrets, and issues of trust and ownership, the couple eventually realizes that their relationship is toxic. And Tessa and Hardin finally put their emotions and relationship issues into words.

As the title suggests, two lovers must learn to be happy independently before they can be happy together. The plot finally moves forward after being stagnant, and the ellipses allow the characters to develop into an archetype for too long.

And this extends to family, friends, but also professional life. We especially see Hardin taking a very meta-professional path, which puts the entire After Saga into perspective four movies later.

Tessa and Hardin grow up, learn from their mistakes, and develop as individuals rather than as an unhealthy couple. They even have a discussion about it, a “very important moment,” Josephine Langford, Tessa’s interpreter, told us:

“There’s a scene in The Shack where they talk about the toxicity of their relationship and what’s going on there and how unhealthy it is. They have to figure out how to fix it. To see that learning and maturing from the beginning and the second movie where they’re actually talking about their issues as adults, it’s real. It’s evolution.”

Another major change in this fourth chapter: there are fewer sex scenes. What was a point of refuge or release from each of their problems is pushed aside and Tessa and Hardin finally focus on their real problems, which is a positive point.

If this development may confuse some fans, it should no doubt also reassure them of a potential happy ending in the final chapter of the saga. Especially for fans who haven’t read Anna Todd’s literary series. Then – Chapter 4 might even become a fan favorite, at least for its two main actors:

“I think for a lot of people, it’s their favorite movie, which I really enjoy because I think it’s mine, too. But, yeah, it’s a continuation of their story and a lot of different things happen, and it really explores the emotional. The complexity of their relationship.”

Filmed in Bulgaria after the third installment, After 4 is again directed by Castile Landon, who was already in charge of After 3. Josephine Langford and the heroine Fiennes Tiffin clearly agree with the newcomers of the third chapter, who replaced the former performers.

Recall that Mira Sorvino replaced Selma Blair in the role of Tessa’s mother, Carol Young. Ariel Kebbell and Stephen Moyer replaced Candice King and Charlie Webber with Kim and Christian Vance. Finally, Chance Perdomo replaced Shane Paul McGee as Landon Gibson, Tessa’s best friend and Hardin’s half-brother.

Then – Chapter 4 is available on Amazon Prime Video. Then – Chapter 2 and Then – Chapter 3 are also available on the platform.
