In the “007” franchise, one of the many names given to James Bond is that of “secret agent in the service of the Queen”. But with Elizabeth II’s death in early September, what can change now that the only monarch Bond served is no longer on the scene?
For 60 of Queen Elizabeth II’s 70-year reign, since Sean Connery first played James Bond in “007 Against The Satanic Dr. No” in 1962, Agent 007 was serving the Queen on the big screen. To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which completed 70 years of reign in June, the franchise’s official account published a post to celebrate the occasion.

With such a close relationship between the franchise and Queen Elizabeth II, he even starred opposite Daniel Craig and “jumped” from a helicopter during the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games in 2012, when the franchise was promoting the launch of “Operation Skyfall” and the character’s 50th anniversary.
Since Bond’s story is so tied to that of Queen Elizabeth II, the only monarch he has served, there are doubts from some fans as to what will happen in the future of the franchise with her death.
In an interview with The Hollywood reporter, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson commented on the matter. “As you say, Bond worked for the queen and the country, and now he will work for the king and the country. He was a very loyal servant of the British government. He is a classic hero who cares about the world and cares more about humanity than about his personal desires, “Broccoli explained.
“It’s a very sad time in Britain, obviously it’s a great transition period, but it has certainly left an amazing legacy,” he added. After the announcement of Elizabeth II’s death, Broccoli and Wilson posted a grieving statement on social media. “We join the world in mourning for the passing of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We offer our sincere condolences about her to her family ”.

Based on Barbara Broccoli’s comments, James Bond must serve King Charles III as he served Queen Elizabeth II. Wilson added, commenting on the British royal family’s support for the franchise, pointing out that it wasn’t just from the queen.
“She has been a huge supporter of Bond films over the years. Just like every other member of the royal family – Charles, [o príncipe] William and all the others. She was a steadfast hand, ”the producer said, adding the shock of the Queen’s death:“ You don’t think so much as a person. It’s a shock, no matter how much you foresee it might happen.
In addition to being questioned about the future of “007” and its relationship with the British crown, Broccoli and Wilson also recently commented, in an interview with Variety, on the process of choosing the new James Bond, who will replace Daniel Craig. There, they made it clear that the process is still in the early stages and a long-term commitment to the franchise will be required.
