‘Ghost of Tsushima’: The film already has a scriptwriter

Will it have the same box office success as ‘Uncharted’?

The film adaptation of ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ has taken an important step forward today, after hiring a screenwriter. As reported by dead linethe PlayStation Productions studio has hired Takashi Doscher to write the script. He previously wrote and directed the ‘Still’ movies (starring Nick Bloodfrom ‘Agents of SHIELD’) and ‘Only’ (starring Frieda Pintofrom ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and Leslie Odom Jr. from ‘Hamilton’), and did an episode of ‘Chicago PD’ last year.

It is said that his next film, ‘Blue’ is a twist on the quintessential Japanese genre: the world of giant monsters o kaiju.

Based on the PlayStation exclusive gamewhich has already become one of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s best sellers, ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ will continue the adventures of a samurai named Jin Sakai while the Mongols invade the island of Tsushima.

To free his people, Jin will take on new (and less honorable) ways of fighting and become known as “the ghost”, striking terror into the hearts of his enemies. But everything has a cost, since for it he will be condemned to ostracism, both by his own and by the rest of his family.

The director of ‘John Wick’, Chad Stahelsky, has confirmed his position as director within the project, so we can expect some amazing action scenes with samurai. For Stahelski, the year is packed, with the fourth part of ‘John Wick’ to finish, in addition to ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ and a good handful of other fantastic titles (‘Kill of Be Killed’, ‘Highlander’).

The game launched on PS4 in 2020, with a PS5 version and an expansion titled ‘Iki Island’ a year later. There’s also a standalone multiplayer mode called ‘Ghost of Tsushima: Legends’, which received its latest batch of bug patches recently, with a note thanking the multiplayer community for their support.

Lists of recent releases for the studio Sucker Punch could hint at interest in a sequel, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Meanwhile, PlayStation Productions is still celebrating the success of the ‘Uncharted’ movie at the international box office, while HBO is working on ‘The Last of Us’ TV series.

Video game adaptations to the world of cinema and series are nothing new, but in recent times they have been increased, in part by the promise of capturing new audiences come from the video game world. The latest news we had about it came from Dj2Entertainment, responsible for the ‘Sonic’ movie, but also for the ‘Life is Strange’ and ‘Disco Elysium’ series. The studio has signed an agreement with Hazelight Studios (a company led by Josef Faresdirector of ‘A Way Out’) to adapt ‘It Takes Two’ for television and film.
