“Simpsons or Griffins”: Discover Cool Attitude Even Cooler on Disney +

What can we expect with this new version of Cool attitude: even cooler?

Ralph Farquhar (The Show): Let’s say we continue this family adventure with even more modern themes. The characters are older and a little more colorful because we moved from Disney Channel to Disney+.

Their target is older, which allows us to make a series for teenagers as well as their parents, who were most likely fans of the 2000s series. I also believe that the identity of our series is stronger: it really is for the whole family. It shows what it means to be a black family in the United States today.

Bruce W. Smith (showrunner): The show has a lot more characters of color, of many ethnic backgrounds. This allows us to represent the entire black community in North America. Disney+ – and streaming platforms in general – allows us to express ourselves without limitation.

We cover topics as varied and diverse as the Black Lives Matter movement or the issues of teenage pregnancy. We will never talk about this on the Disney Channel. I also think we have better animation quality.

Kayla, how does it feel to play a mother after playing a teenager on the original series?

Kyla Pratt: It’s crazy! Who would have thought that 20 years later I would be playing this character again? This allows me to continue the conversation that young Penny started.

What does this series mean to you?

Kyla Pratt (Penny): This series is a bit like my family! I’ve always loved being part of the Cool Attitude world. It completely matches who I really am. It’s a series that isn’t afraid to challenge all the important topics that are particularly relevant to the black community.

Beyond the color of the characters, the audience can identify with the social issues he discusses that affect us all: such as family, employment or bullying among young people. We are also talking about the problems caused by social networks. Or the plight of gay couples with children. We even have an episode about unpaid teachers who end up living in their cars!

The series leads to conversations we need to have. Today’s society is harsh on everyone whether you are black or not. We must dare to face these difficulties and find solutions.

Cool attitude and its characters of different nationalities.

Finally, what do you want viewers to take away from the series?

Bruce W. Smith: I hope the community likes this new version, asking for more! I hope to continue for several seasons. It’s really The Simpsons or The Griffins, except here it’s with a black family.

Ralph Farquhar: Hopefully the public will remember that we are completely honest and put real emotion into it. Although this is an animated series, the ideas and emotions are very real. It’s authentic, we’re not in a cute cartoon. I hope the public can identify with our heroes, who are a mirror of who we really are.

Kyla Pratt: I hope that the new generation will enjoy this series as much as I did as an adult, and that the old fans will always be just as enthusiastic and present.
