The Golden Globes, one of the largest audiovisual awards to be televised again after not being broadcast in 2022, announced this Wednesday (28) an expansion in its categories, which will go into effect from 2023.
The changes are in the TV categories, with a division into the acting categories. Before the change, there were awards for Best Performance in a Drama Series, Music or Comedy Series and a Miniseries or Movie for TV and only one category for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, including series, miniseries and movies. for TV.
Starting with the 80th Golden Globe, actors and actresses will be honored in the following new categories, according to an announcement from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA):
In addition, the HFPA Board of Directors has also approved the continuation of the rules implemented last year, which are now in effect for this year as well. These include mandatory non-screening of films and submissions to films and TV programs will remain voluntary for eligibility.
However, the organization still encourages studies to confirm an official showing on the HFPA calendar and submit their content eligible for examination. But both actions are optional for consideration of the Golden Globes this year.
As a result, any film or television project will automatically be eligible for awards as long as it was released in the year 2022 or the longest eligibility window that applies to non-English language films.
All eligible movies and TV shows will be included in the Reminder List, which is overseen by a select panel that has put together a breakdown of all products launched during the year and an assignment of relevant categories. Studios, networks and streamers will also have the ability to submit their suggestions for specific categories.
The 80th Golden Globe Awards Ceremony will take place on January 10, 2023.
