In the true story of the killer of “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” there are some details that did not happen as shown in the Netflix series. We explain to you.
‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’, Netflix series: Was Glenda Cleveland in real life?
In “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” there is a central character besides the killer himself, which is his neighbor (played by Niecy Nash).
In the Netflix series her name is said to be Glenda Cleveland, and although this woman existed in real life and witnessed one of the incidents of Dahmer’s victims, she was not her neighbor.
Glenda Cleveland lived in the building next to Dhamer. The person who lived next door to the killer was named Pamela Bass. The character that appears in the Netflix series is a mixture of the experiences of both women.
Were the officers rewarded like in ‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’?
In episode 9 of “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” it appears that Officers Balcerzak and Gabrish (who returned one of Dahmer’s victims with the killer) received the Milwaukee Police Association’s Officer of the Year award.
However, this did not happen in real life. Instead, they were suspended after the Sinthasomphone incident. However, they returned to work in 1994, which upset the relatives of Dahmer’s victims.
How was Jeffrey Dahmer’s trial in 1988?
In the Netflix series it was possible to see that in 1988 Jeffrey Dahmer was brought to trial after being accused of sexual abuse. Although he unfortunately came off these charges unscathed (he was only sentenced to one year of probation), in real life his trial did not go as it appears in the series.
There it appears that the judge is discriminating against Sounthone Sinthasomphone’s father for mispronunciation of English. However, according to Anne E Schwartz’s book “Monster: The Trie Story of the Jeffrey Dahmer Murders,” the Sinthasomophone family did not attend the sentencing that took place in 1988.
That is, it was a narrative source of the Netflix series to show the injustices, racism and discrimination experienced by Dahmer’s victims.
The Konerak Sinthasomphone rescue effort
In “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” we saw how the killer’s neighbors protected Konerak Sinthasomphone after he managed to escape from the man’s apartment.
However, in the documentary “Jeffrey Dahmer: Mind of a Monster” a woman named Nicole Childress recounts how she was the one who realized the 14-year-old boy’s condition.
She says she was 17 years old and was in the car with some friends when she saw through the window that someone was naked and injured. That’s when she went to help him.
He called the police for help, and that’s when Jeffrey Dahmer arrived for the boy. Nicole refused to give it to her and started pulling Dahmer.
However, when the police arrived, the exact same thing happened to the Netflix series: they decided to believe Jeffrey Dahmer. She ran to her aunt’s house to call for help, but when she came out there was no one on the street.
She did not learn what had happened to Konerak until police later contacted her and showed them photos of her severed head.
