How does ‘Destiny: The Winx Saga’ do well what ‘Stranger Things’ fails to do?

The series of fairies is not afraid to throw a couple of punches.

¡spoiler from ‘Destiny: The Winx Saga’ and from ‘Stranger Things’ below!

Season 2 of ‘Destiny: The Winx Saga’ has taken the fairy plot and given it a dark and horror spin. In a way, it’s a slightly more fantastical version of one of Netflix’s best series, ‘Stranger Things’.

The great acceptance of ‘Stranger Things’ is not without foundation: it captures a period style that is usually reserved for long-running franchises, such as ‘Star Wars’ or ‘The Lord of the Rings’, and rarely seen in TV series. Has ‘Destiny’ managed to get so high? It certainly has a devoted fan base and a defined universe, but not currently, it hasn’t.

However, wherever ‘Destiny’ triumphs is in being a series that is clearly not afraid to take risks, and in the second season, he has done it in an incredible way. They’re the kind of risks that ‘Stranger Things’ hasn’t really managed to achieve.

The main issue? They are not afraid to kill their people (especially important characters in the series).

‘Stranger Things’ is much more careful about this, there’s no denying that (although personally we’re still reeling from the tragic death of beloved Eddie Munson). But, as both the cast and the showrunners have acknowledged, the Duffer Brothers don’t like, or want to, pull the trigger on someone they deem essential to the series.

Instead they make what is known as a ‘Sacrificial Lamb’. They introduce a character that the public is going to like, with the intention that they die from the beginning. This gives the series its kills, without putting the main faces at risk.

For this reason, Eddie’s death could be predicted before the season premiered, considering that they have already done this three times. It impacts, without a doubt, but you see it coming. They will never be the most shocking deaths we have ever seen.

The Duffer Brothers [creadores de la serie] they are two maudlins and they don’t want to kill anyone,” Millie Bobby Brown said in an interview promoting the series. “We need to have the ‘Game of Thrones’ mentality. kill me! They tried to kill David [Harbour] and they brought him back!“.

In September 2022, in an interview with Vanity Fair promoting the film ‘Revenge Now’, Maya Hawke agreed that there was “many cast members“and that more than one should have died in season 4.

‘Destiny: The Winx Saga’ doesn’t seem to have that problem. In the season 2 finale, with a quick and painful shake of the hand from the evil Sebastian, we lost one of our most prominent Alfea fairies: Beatrix.

Beatrix (Sadie Soverall) was a character of her own design, falling on the gray scale of good versus evil. She was focused on her own survival and goals, fighting for a position of power in the school and even stepping on others to achieve her goals. Her connection to the main group was undeniable, especially with Stella, with whom she has had numerous shippeos by the fans.

She was a great addition to some of the most intense scenes between the Winx girls, always charged with a sarcastic comment, but lately she has faced the consequences of her actions.

Her death has caused a greater impact than those we have seen of the cast of ‘Stranger Things’, because we have spent a lot of time with her and she was connected enough with the main cast for her disappearance to be a blow. In this universe it would be the most Hopper-like death… if the Duffer brothers had been strong enough to keep it.

As the leader of a girl gang, her friends are suddenly lost. Her last words to Bloom were “remember what you said,” by refusing her offer of help and knowledge. And we’ve also seen that Stella will have Beatrix’s death haunting her conscience.

There is certainly a chance that Beatrix will return. It is a fantasy series, after all, and resurrections are literally what Sebastian wants to achieve. But as Beatrix herself told Stella, bringing people back to life comes at a great price, and the Otherworld was nearly destroyed the last time it was attempted. If she does come back, she won’t be the Beatrix we’ve known and loved and hated in the past.

It is not the first time that the series has killed a main character, despite only having two seasons. The death of Headmistress Dowling (Eve Best) was astronomical in its effects on Alfea, prompting her replacement by Rosalind (Lesley Sharp/Miranda Richardson), who marked the triumph of evil in what was a life of kindness for fairies and specialists. . In this literal fairy tale world, good should always triumph over evil, and for now, this season has flipped that norm on its head and thrown it out the window.

‘Stranger Things’ is an amazing, and universally most beloved series, but since it’s developing its final season, it could do so by taking a lesson or two from ‘Destiny: The Winx Saga’ school.
