Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: The future where you can monetize your lifespan.
Passionate about cinematography at an early age, but limited by the opportunities offered in his native New Zealand, Andrew Nicol traveled to England where he began his career shooting television commercials. After a ten-year career in Europe, he flew to the United States, where he established himself as a major director in less than a year.
His script for The Truman Show, a critically-acclaimed reality television show, immediately attracted a number of producers before being cast by filmmaker Peter Weir. Andrew Niccol then introduced himself to sci-fi in Welcome to Gattaca, an elegant production that evokes fatalism. With Simone, the director makes a satirical point before solving a case of illegal arms trafficking in Lord of War.
After a six-year absence, Andrew Nicol returned to the screen in 2011 with Time Out. This fourth feature allows him to return to his first love around the original concept where time changes any form of currency.
Like his earlier projects, the film dissects society through the lens of expectation, exploring themes of time, money, power and eternal youth. A futuristic thriller of terrifying clarity starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried.
Expiration of time By Andrew Nicol with Amanda Seyfried, Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy…
