A new series derived from the Saint Seiya manga hits bookstores this Friday, September 30th. title Knights of the Zodiac: A Time OdysseyPublished by Kana Publications, this comic follows the famous bronze knights Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun, and Ikki on an unprecedented adventure.
With the release of the first volume (of a planned total of five), here’s why you shouldn’t miss out on these comics that come from the Knights of the Zodiac!
The comics “Knights of the Zodiac: A Time Odyssey” were created by two French authors, Arnaud Dolen and Jérôme Alquier. The latter is particularly notable for having previously visited the world of another iconic Japanese animation hero: Captain Harlock, through a three-volume series. Captain Harlock – Memories of Arcadia (Also available from Canna Publications).
More than a simple retelling of the Saint Seiya myth, the Knights of the Zodiac: Time Odyssey comic is part of the official canon of the license; Mangaka Masami Kurumada, author of the exclusive afterword, has personally confirmed the release of the work. Another perk: the comic was published in Japan in Champion Red magazine, in two parts, respecting the French reading direction and the color printing of the work.
These comics introduce a brand new villain in the person of Kronos, father of Zeus, who can change the course of time. After villains from the anthology like Hades and Poseidon, Kronos promises to be a formidable foe that is sure to force our Bronze Knight heroes to redouble their bravery and courage to face this new challenge!
Knights of the Zodiac: A Time Odyssey was created according to Franco-Belgian comics codes, using its Western reading direction (left to right) and colors. Its authors have also produced titanic work to revisit mangaka Masami Kurumada’s style while staying true to the Saint Seiya aesthetic. Designed as a cross between Japanese manga and French-language comics, Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque: Time Odyssey is therefore a unique work in its own right.
This Saint Seiya comic also has the peculiarity of offering the perfect gateway to anyone who wants to discover the world of the Knights of the Zodiac through this work. So you don’t have to read the original manga (or watch its animated adaptation) to understand the stakes of this comic, with plenty of flashbacks and explanations that allow for a particularly masterful way to lift the veil on the characters’ pasts.
