Dragon Ball Super for Parents: 3 Minutes to Know Everything About Kids’ Favorite Anime

With Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero hitting theaters on October 5th, AlloCiné is giving parents a chance to catch up on their tweens’ favorite series with the feature film sequel.

Following the success of 2019’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Toei Studios has begun work on this second feature film that will make Gohan and Piccolo proud. The story goes like this: The Red Ribbon Army was destroyed by Son Goku, but the individuals decided to revive it.

Thus they created the ultimate cyborgs, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. Self-proclaimed “superheroes”, they launch their offensive against Piccolo and Son Gohan. What is the purpose of this new Red Ribbon organization? Faced with this impending threat, it’s time for the real heroes to wake up!

What is the Dragon Ball Super series about?

After a fierce battle with Majin Buu, Goku tries to keep peace on Earth. The arrival of many aliens forces him to surpass himself once again and engage in a terrifying battle that will take him to a new dimension beyond his imagination!

What does it look like ?

At what age should you watch this anime?

AlloCiné editors have been recommending Dragon Ball Super since 8 years. Sometimes very intense fight scenes can offend children’s sensibilities.

Why do children love it?

  • Because it’s a battle!
  • Because there is a lot of humor, especially thanks to the Goku/Vegeta duo and the Beerus/Whis tandem!
  • Because the series has several different narrative arcs that alternate between several tones (light, warlike, dark), allowing you to never get bored!
  • For Goku and Vegeta, but also for a whole gallery of supporting characters, each more down-to-earth than the next!

Who are the main characters?

  • Goku : I will no longer introduce Son Goku, the main character of the Dragon Ball saga. He is a powerful Saiyan born on the planet Vegeta.
  • vegetable : Friend or foe, you never really know with Vegeta. Initially antagonistic, he ends up teaming up with Goku to never leave him again. In Dragon Ball Super, their duo is at the center of the story. He is also a Saiyan from Planet Vegeta.
  • Beerus : He is the God of Destruction of the Seventh World. He first appears as the main antagonist in the feature film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. He later becomes the main character of Dragon Ball Super. It looks like a purple cat with bunny ears. With a rather childish temperament, he gets angry easily and becomes very violent if he doesn’t get what he wants.
  • whisky : This is Beerus’ martial arts master. He is also his servant, an angel who serves the God of Destruction. It can leave its functions only if the latter disappears. Thus, he resumes his functions upon the arrival of the new God of Destruction. He loves good food and likes the little dishes prepared by Vegeta’s wife, Bulma.

5 terms you definitely won’t understand if your child talks about them to you

  • Saiyan : Saiyans, or Saiyans, are aliens native to the planet Vegeta. Several characters, including Son Goku, are part of this crowd.
  • Kakarot : This is Son Goku’s birth name. Vegeta often calls him that.
  • Kamehameha : Kame Hame Ha, which can be translated as “Turtle’s Destructive Wave”, is a very powerful fighting technique that was given to Goku by his mentor Master Turtle.
  • Namek : This is the planet of origin of the Dragon Balls, whose quest is the main plot of the saga’s story. Namek has several suns, so it never gets dark there.
  • Red Ribbon Army : This is a very powerful military organization headed by General Red. At the beginning of Dragon Ball, he wants to get the seven crystal balls to solve a problem with his personality.

An anecdote that will surprise your teenager!

  • Vegetables and alcoholic beverages are hidden behind the characters’ names: Kakarot = carrot, Beerus = beer, Whis = whiskey, Vegeta = vegetable (vegetable), Champa (champagne), Broli (broccoli).
  • The word Sayan is an anagram of “yasai”, a Japanese term meaning “vegetable”.
  • Jiren: Reversing the name of this fearsome warrior from Universe 11, we get the Japanese word “renji”, which means “stove”.
  • Bulma: Like all members of her family, Bulma’s name refers to underwear. In this case, bloomers (“buruma” in Japanese). As for his son Trunks, his name means “underwear”.
  • In VF, Gohan, Trunks, and Crystal have the same voice as in Joey’s Friends! They are voiced by comedian Mark Lesser.

Where can I watch this anime?

Dragon Ball Super is available on Toonami channel, available Canal+ packages.

What other anime should you watch with your teenager next?

  • My Hero Academia, with impeccable self-sacrifice and dynamic battles for its protagonist.
  • One Piece, a fun and naughty pirate army and battle!
  • Dr Slump: Another anime created by legendary Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama.
