Actress Dashawn Barnes plays Rita Isbell on the show.
As for the project, Rita Isbell does not mince words: “He never contacted me. I think we should have asked Netflix to find out how we experienced it. They didn’t say anything, they just listened to each other. But I’m not obsessed with money, but that’s what Netflix does, they want to make a profit.”
He continues: “I could understand if some money was paid to the children of the dead. (…) If they could use the series, it would not be so heavy and thoughtless. It’s sad that they just want to make money out of tragedy. It’s greed, plain and simple.”
Thirty years after the trial, Rita Isbell is trying to rebuild her life. “This anger stayed with me for a long time. I didn’t have the same wisdom as I do today. (…) The more time passes, the more I can go through anything. I still have life, health, children, grandchildren.”
He adds: “Today I can talk about everything. I don’t want to ignore answers, questions, my opinions, how I feel, especially if I can help. If what I express can bring relief to someone else, even myself, then yes.“
Rita Isbell says her brother became a father before he disappeared. “Today his daughter is 31 years old and this story happened 31 years ago. It’s not about me, it’s about him. So when my name is mentioned, the first thing I think of is Tatiana Banks, Errol Lindsey’s daughter. And now he even has grandchildren.“
