Will Smith is back: the trailer for his new movie is finally here!

After his first Oscar for The Williams Method and The Shelley Incident, Will Smith returns to the stage with Emancipation, his first collaboration with Antoine Fuqua. Watch the trailer.

After a long career and many successes, Will Smith received his first statue for The Williams Method at the 94th Academy Awards. The award capped off a strange evening for the star, who moments earlier had slammed comedian Chris Rock for a tasteless joke.

It’s been months since then, and if several rumors claimed the actor was blacklisted by Hollywood, he’s back with Emancipation, Antoine Fuqua’s new film for Apple TV+.

Will Smith plays a slave who runs away from his plantation in Louisiana to join the Union Army. The film is inspired by real events and, in particular, the fate of Peter, also called Gordon, a man whose back was photographed and published in the pages of The Independent in May 1863.

This unbearable cliché, now known worldwide, became an illustration of the barbarism that slaves suffered during the Civil War.

The first trailer hints at a historical drama of raw violence, dark visuals and a new cast of Alice and Men in Black.

In the U.S., Emancipation will first hit theaters on December 2 before hitting the platform on December 9. In France, it will be available on Apple TV+ from today.
