Every day, AlloCiné recommends watching a movie (again) on TV. Tonight: One of the best superhero movies of all time, according to AlloCiné viewers.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, marks the end of the “Infinity Gems” cycle that began with Iron Man eleven years earlier. A direct sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, where Thanos destroyed half the universe, the film sees the Avengers close ranks for a high-flying spectacle.
The perfect end to the epic arc of the MCU saga, the film is also a record of many: be it its exceptional duration of 3 hours and 2 minutes, its 289 million views recorded in its first trailer in just 24 hours, but also and above all, its score at the global box office.
After the best start in cinema history, bringing in more than $1.2 billion worldwide in its opening weekend, Avengers: Endgame After 12 weeks, it reached $2.790 billion.
Thus, it surpassed the record held by Avatar, which grossed $2.788 billion internationally in 2009. The superhero movie thus remained the No. 1 highest-grossing film of all time for nearly two years, until it was dethroned by Avatar, which regained the lead thanks to a re-release in China in March 2021.
Today, with a total of 2.797 billion dollars, the Marvel blockbuster takes the second place on the podium, between Avatar (2.877 billion) and Titanic (2.201 billion).
