Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn in recent DC films Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, has spoken about casting Lady Gaga in Todd Phillips’ Joker: Crazy for Two.
Last August we learned that Lady Gaga had joined the cast of Joker: Folie à deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix. Although details about her character have not been released, the singer-actress is set to play Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn, the Joker’s only known companion.
The role was played by Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad opposite Jared Leto’s Joker, as well as in Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad.
In full promotion of David O’Russell’s Amsterdam (in theaters November 1), Margot Robbie was interviewed. MTV News About Lady Gaga slipping into the skin of a character in this movie, announced as a musical.
“This makes me very happy because from the beginning I wanted Harley Quinn to be one of those characters like Macbeth or Batman who always goes from one great actor to another.– says the actor before adding:
“It’s an honor to be able to build a solid enough base for other actors to portray Harley now. I think he will make something amazing out of it.”

Lady Gaga has already won a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her role in American Horror Story in 2016, and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in 2019 for A Star is Born and in 2022 for House of Gucci.
Joker won two Oscars — best actor for Joaquin Phoenix and original score for Hildur Guðinadottir — and grossed $1.07 billion at the international box office. Results that allow the sequel to Todd Phillips’ feature film to have a larger budget of $150 million (the first opus, released in late 2019, cost “only” $55 million).
