Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, White Lotus) has been cast in the remake of Barbarella. After many attempts to adapt this iconic and kitsch film with Jane Fonda, Sony took on the project for the cinema.

Heading for a remake of this iconic 60s SF movie? according to DeadlineA new adaptation of Barbarella is currently in the works, starring Sidney Sweeney in the title role, most notably seen in the Euphoria and White Lotus series, and is currently in production for Madame Web, a new film originating from the Spider-Man universe.

The actor announced on his Instagram account that he will star in this film project by Sony Pictures.

Plot: In the year 4000, astronaut Barbarella, then on vacation, is assigned a special mission by the President of Earth. He must find Durand-Durand, a scientist who disappeared several years ago, the inventor of the ultimate weapon that he wants to sell to an enemy planet.

This project is currently under development. The film does not have a screenwriter or director yet. According to Deadline, in addition to the lead role, the film will be co-produced by Sidney Sweeney.

Conceived by comic book author Jean-Claude Forest, Barbarella had a previous film adaptation directed by Roger Vadim and released in 1968. Starring Jane Fonda as the heroine, the heroine became iconic with this iconic SF film and kitsch at the same time. Since then, several attempts at remakes have been made, but to no avail. It almost made it back to the big screen with Robert Rodriguez and Rose McGowan. Director Nicolas Winding Refn also had a series project 10 years ago.
