Adapted from Guillaume Mousseau’s novel of the same name, La fille et la nuit is a series in six 52-minute episodes, directed by Bill Eagles from a screenplay by Marston Bloom.

To bring Guillaume Mousseau’s characters to life, the producer teamed up with Ioan Gruffudd (Dr. Harrow, The Liar), Gregory Fitus (Le Bureau des legendes) and Vahina Jokantes (The Chair) who played Thomas, Maxime and Fanny. Ivan Sakhno (Danger Zone) lends his qualities to the mysterious and enigmatic Vinka Rockwell.

Finally, Rupert Graves, Salome Gunnarsdottir, Semmes Audat and Matthias van Hache round out this cast.

La Jeune fille et la nuit is not the first adaptation of a Guillaume Mousseau novel, but previous works have never been the subject of a series. Having sold more than two million copies worldwide, the series adaptation of this thriller is an event for fans of the novelist and will not let the audience down.

In the late 1990s, Thomas, Maxime, Fanny and Vinka carelessly enjoy their youth. Everything changes one winter night when Thomas and Maxime commit a murder before burying the body in the high school gymnasium and Vinka mysteriously disappears.

Hounded by a terrible secret, Thomas, Maxime and Fanny will continue to live for twenty-five years, until an event that they did not foresee brings back the past. Indeed, when their crime theater is threatened with destruction, Thomas, who has since become a successful novelist, returns to France and then breaks his silence on a reunion of former students.

Still haunted by the memory of Vinca, with whom he was madly in love, even obsessed, he then tries to understand what happened to her that night. One truth sometimes hides another, and the secrets he must discover will threaten the lives of those around him and shake the foundations on which he was built.

The staged story, “The Young Girl and the Night” takes us on a breath-taking story of the CĂ´te d’Azur and its grand opulent houses under the sun.

Very quickly, the questions start to flow… What happened to Vintza? Why are Thomas’ parents unhappy about their son’s return to France, and why are they so secretive when they tell him about Vinca? What is the fan trying to hide?

As you can see, if Vinca Rockwell is at the center of this multi-team investigation, the mysteries and mysteries surrounding her disappearance are many.

Alternating between the past and the present, the series is full of twists and turns until the last minute. But now it is often taken to extremes or even redundant. While the first part suffers from a few delays, the last three episodes develop at a breakneck pace. Despite all that, we let ourselves be carried away in this quest for truth, which offers enough fascinating revelations for a chain of episodes.

Therefore, the ingredients of a thriller are there, the staging is liquidated, but in the end, it is when it looks at more intimate questions about its characters that the series takes on thickness and shows the greatest interest. Still, it’s hard to get attached to characters whose writing lacks the warmth to create genuine empathy in the viewer.

In this mixed result, Ioan Gruffudd, Grigori Fitus and Vahina Jokante interpret their roles impeccably. Enchanted Vinka’s interpreter Ivana Sakhno is a promising young actress who will not be surprised to see her in other big projects in the future. The supporting cast, on the other hand, is unremarkable and occasionally brings a welcome humorous note.

Failing to revolutionize the thriller genre, A Young Girl and the Night offers good entertainment and that’s what we ask for!
