Ryan Murphy has been developing his taste for weird and scary stories, and it’s proving his worth on the planet of Netflix. After monopolizing the top spot for three consecutive weeks with Dahmer, the prolific creator continues to shine with The Watcher.

This 7-episode mini-series, created and written by Ian Brennan, follows the Brannock family’s ordeal as they move into their dream home at 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey. Within days of their arrival, mysterious anonymous letters signed “The Watcher” arrive to disturb their peace.

While Dahmer and The Watcher are very different in tone and form, the projects are both inspired by real events. Their success proves public appetite true crimes – True crime stories in French.

The sinister and particularly disturbing series about the Jeffrey Dahmer case, directed by Evan Peters, has established itself as a real phenomenon on the platform. It even became the second most watched fiction of all time behind Stranger Things.

The boxes of Dahmer and The Watcher come to restore the color of the contract that binds Netflix to Ryan Murphy. In 2018, the American Horror Story creator signed a $300 million deal with the streaming giant. Despite the producer’s undoubted talent, the results so far have been mixed.
