Dragon House: Episode 9 recap where the dance of dragons finally begins

Warning, spoilers. The following paragraphs contain spoilers for episode 9 of House of the Dragon. If you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you stop reading now.

Episode 9 of House of the Dragon begins with a dead silence reigning in the Red Keep. The death of King Visser I Targaryen is slowly beginning to be known. The king is dead, long live the king! After the punishment, Queen Alicent does not lose her attitude and tells her father, Otto Hightower, also Hand of the King, that Viserys wanted her son Aegon to be heir to the Iron Throne.

Except that viewers know for sure that Viserys was referring to his ancestor, Aegon the Conqueror, and the prophecy he shared with his daughter Rhaenyra. And with this misunderstanding of Viserys’s last words – even if he understood what he wanted to understand – Alicent will start an unprecedented civil war, the famous “Dance of Dragons”.

The Limited Council then reunites, with most of the members already conspiring in Alicent Hightower’s favor so that the Greens (the name given to Alicent’s team) will take control of the Seven Kingdoms. But Aegon’s rise means declaring war on the Blacks (the name given to Raenyra’s horde) and thus killing Viserys’ daughter and her entire family.

Only two voices oppose him: Lyman of the Swarms, the Grand Treasurer, who Ser Christon Cole calms down (a violent thump is heard), and Ser Harold Westrelyn, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, who returns his apron to hopefully join Rhaenyra.

Looking at Alicent’s remaining dignity and heart, he is also afraid of this decision. He doesn’t want to kill Renira, but he also wants her to bend the knee, just like the demon, Renira’s uncle and now husband (yes, yes). And for that he knows very well that he can always run.

This final episode is the real turning point, as the Greens will use whatever advantage they have to prevent Rhaenyra from gaining access to the Iron Throne. Hence, it is imperative that Aegon be crowned as soon as possible. Except the young Targaryen is nowhere to be found. Her brother Emond and Sir Christon Cole go deep into the slums of Port Real to find her, but they’re not the only ones.

While we learn that Aegon and his deviations have spawned little “bastards” all over Port-Real, the twin knights Arik and Eric Cargill are also looking for the “Future King” under the orders of Otto Hightower. After all, it is Emond, jealous of his brother’s fortune, who takes over Aegon, who has no desire to rule.

Alicent, however, takes care to convince him that Viserys was considering him for the Iron Throne by giving him his father’s Valyrian steel dagger. And when the great ceremony of his coronation takes place in the Great September, Aegon feels his dragon wings unfold as the crown of his ancestor, Aegon the Conqueror, is placed upon his head.

But it was too bad to meet Rhaenys Targaryen, who had been locked in her room before. The question is, why was he still there? Did he not feel the danger? Although Alicent tells her that it should have been Queen instead of Viserys to plead for support, Rhaenys, who sides with Rhaenyra, refuses and gets help from one of her brothers, Cargill, who pulls her out of the room.

During the coronation, Rhaenys sneaks out on his dragon to find Meliss and makes a conspicuous appearance while threatening Alicent and the rest of the Greens. He could burn them all like little piggies (if you have the ref!), with Dracarys, but Rhaenys misses the chance to let Black win.

After all, this is not his war. But his escape adds even more tension to the rivalry between the greens and the blacks and promises a merciless war. The famous “Dance of Dragons” finally started well between Alicent’s team and Rhaenyra, which we will definitely see in episode ten, the blacks are absent in chapter nine.

But we must not forget the men and women behind the scenes of the political spectrum. Between Missaria – who would have many more in Varys – and her little spies plotting Otto Hightower and Lord Larry Fort – who is therefore a foot fetishist! – Who arranges with Alicent, many low kicks, even internally, are expected and this, of course, for our greatest pleasure.
