‘The Bridgertons’ have made history: the 2nd season is the most watched series in English on Netflix

The second season of the series has surpassed the first.

Season 2 of ‘The Bridgertons’ has just settled its battle for supremacy with Season 1. The series produced by Shondalant has become the most watched English series on Netflix.

With 627.11 million hours watched, the new season of the series has surpassed its predecessor. The first season now ranks second for that same achievement with 625.49 million hours viewed during its first four full weeks. The 28-day mark, which counts four full weeks of availability, is Netflix’s primary metric for determining the success or failure of a given show..

The series set in the 19th century becomes the most watched in English. ‘The Squid Game’ holds the overall record, with 1.65 billion hours viewed in its first four weeks. ‘Stranger Things’ season 3 is pretty close to ‘The Bridgertons’, with 582.10 million hours broadcast in its first 28 days. Its fourth season will arrive on May 27, after almost three years of waiting. We’ll see if Hawkins’ supernatural stories take the top spot from the period story.

This week, season 2 of ‘The Bridgertons’ recorded a total of 66.61 million hours watched and appeared in the top 10 on Netflix in 88 countries. The series, produced by Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland and created by Chris Van Dusen, turned Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the older brother and head of the family Bridgerton, in the star this time, although in a less explicit season and that, according to some critics, seemed more aimed at a family audience. If we look at non-English speaking series this week, the fifth season of ‘Elite’ is crowned the most watched on the platform (and in fact the first season sneaks into the Top Ten, in ninth place).

As far as series in English are concerned, after this second season there is the first season of ‘The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On’ that slips between the two seasons ‘The Bridgertons’, followed by ‘Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story ‘, ‘Who is Anna?’ (also produced by Shondaland) and the fifth season of ‘Better Call Saul’.

The story between Anthony and Kate Sharma (Simone-Ashley) has conquered the public. Given the success of the stories of the Bridgerton family and the gossip brought from the pen of Lady Whistledown, the series will have a third and fourth season on the streaming giant. If the first season followed the track of Daphne, the second of Anthony, in the third the protagonist will be Benedict.
