Rihanna’s long-awaited return to music will be the lead single in the sequel to the Marvel Studios blockbuster. According to Variety, the song is a tribute to the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman, the actor who played the character of T’Challa in the first film and died in February 2020 of cancer at the age of 43. The song was written by Tems, Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna herself and director Ryan Coogler.
“After talking to Ryan and hearing his direction for film and music, I wanted to write something that represented the warm embrace of all the people I have lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would be like if I could sing for them right now and express how much I miss them, ”said Tems. “Rihanna was a source of inspiration for me, so hearing her on this song is a great honor.”
Westbury Road, owned by Rihanna, will release the song “Lift Me Up” in association with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings and Hollywood Records. Further details on the rest of the film’s soundtrack, due out on November 4, are yet to be released.
News that Rihanna will release a new song for the film joins the list of announcements suggesting a major return to the singer’s music. Among them is the information that Rihanna will host the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show in February 2023. Rihanna has been far from new music releases since the debut of the album “Anti” in 2016.
Since then, Rihanna has become a mother and expanded her repertoire as a successful businesswoman, and became a billionaire thanks to the cosmetics brand Fenty Beauty and the Savage x Fenty lingerie line. She has been waiting for the release of new albums for a few years, but so far there is no information on when this will happen.
The original song from the movie “Black Panther 2” will be released on Friday (28), about two weeks before the film’s release, which will hit Brazilian theaters on February 10th.
