Actor Adam Sandler has had some big hits with audiences and critics in his career, and his collaboration with Netflix already has some, such as the recent “Throwing High”. However, the actor’s streaming deal also produced some of the worst original films on the platform.
This is the case with “The Ridiculous 6”, a western comedy released on the Tudum platform in 2015. The film has a 0% approval rating on the Tomatometer, an index on the Rotten Tomatoes website that measures critical impressions of a production. Furthermore, audience approval – the so-called Audience Score – of the film was only 36%.
Despite these poor performances in both critical and public impressions, “The Ridiculous 6” was a huge hit in terms of ratings at the time. Released in December 2015, the film was the most watched in Netflix history at the time, according to a statement by streaming executive director Ted Sarandos during a speech in January 2016.
“’The Ridiculous 6′, for example, was the most watched movie in Netflix history in its first 30 days on Netflix. It also took the top spot in all the territories we operate in and is still number one in many of them, ”Sarandos said at the time.
The film is no longer among the most viewed on Netflix, with several hits that have since surpassed the numbers of “The Ridiculous 6”. This is the case of “Red Alert” (2021), “Don’t Look Up” (2021), “Bird Box” (2018), “Hidden Agent” (2022), “The Adam Project” (2022), among others .
It’s also worth noting that “The Ridiculous 6” isn’t the only Netflix original to appear on Rotten Tomatoes with 0% critical approval. Films like “Drive” (2019), “Land and Blood” (2020) and the animation “Marmaduke” are some examples.
Adam Sandler still has other Netflix Original movies that surpass Rotten Tomatoes among the worst critics. This is the case of “Father of the Year” (2018) – with 0% on the Tomatometer and 49% on the Audience Score – in which the actor was only producer, and also “Zerando a Vida” (2016), a film starring by Sandler, who only has 6% critical approval and 42% audience approval on Rotten Tomatoes.
