The “Spider-Man: Homecoming” movie, released in 2017, has two post-credits scenes, something common in Marvel productions. But while one of the scenes was just a joke involving Captain America, the other pointed to the future of the MCU. The problem is that it has since lost its meaning.
The scene in question appears in the middle of the film’s credits, and shows Adrian Toomes, the Vulture (Michael Keaton), in prison later, some time after the events of “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. As he walks down the prison corridor, Vulture confronts his former partner, who has a scorpion tattoo on his neck, indicating that he may become the evil Scorpion in the future.
The man seems to want to know the identity of “Spider-Man”, and says he knows that Toomes / the Vulture knows who the hero is. And that’s true, Toomes knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, as introduced in the last third of the film. However, Vulture does not tell Peter that he is Spider-Man, which indicates that he himself wanted to take revenge on the friend from the neighborhood.
The scene made it clear that the man who could be the Scorpio, played by Michael Mando, wanted to take revenge on Spider-Man. However, the chances of seeing Scorpion seeking revenge have significantly diminished with the ending of “Spider-Man: No Homecoming”.
This is because Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casts a spell that makes the whole world forget who Peter Parker is … which includes the vengeful Scorpio in prison. So, in addition to creating profound consequences for Peter and his friends, who now don’t know who he is, Dr. Strange also eliminates Scorpio’s quest for revenge, which renders the scene completely pointless.
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is available on Netflix, Disney + and Prime Video via Lionsgate +.
