More content from the “Harry Potter” franchise? Warner Bros. Apparently Discovery (WBD) wants to go this route and is open to working alongside the author of this universe, JK Rowling, to develop new projects within the franchise.
In a speech during the company’s third quarter earnings call (via Variety), CEO David Zaslav pointed out that the studio will further embrace its profitable franchises, with the option of revisiting some fantasy universes like “Harry Potter” if the controversial author is involved.
“Batman, Superman, Aquaman, if we can do something with JK in Harry Potter in the future, The Lord of the Rings, what are we doing with Game of Thrones?” Zaslav said. Despite the comment, it remains to be seen whether WBD really intends to revitalize the franchise.
Although the live-action adaptations of JK Rowling’s “Harry Potter” book series wrapped up in 2011, after eight films that began releasing in 2001, The Wizarding World is still alive in theaters. The “Fantastic Beasts” spin-off, a prequel to the main story, reached its third film this year.
However, the most recent release was a critical and box office disappointment, not keeping up with the relative success of the first two films. Part of that has to do with the controversies surrounding the franchise, from the legal troubles Ezra Miller, who plays one of the main characters, was involved in, and also the ongoing criticism of Rowling for her stance towards the trans community.
It remains to be seen whether Newt Scamander’s (Eddie Redmayne) saga in “Fantastic Beasts” will continue after the third film’s failure. Originally, the spin-off consisted of five films. But, in addition to the poor performance of “Dumbledore’s Secrets”, added to the changes in Warner Bros. after the merger with Discovery, the future of the franchise is in doubt.
The wizarding world films, including the entire “Harry Potter” saga and “Fantastic Beasts” films, are available on HBO Max.
The stream that will replace HBO Max and Discovery+ will arrive sooner than expected

The Still-And-Name streaming service that will bring together the HBO Max and Discovery+ catalogs will be released a few months earlier than previously announced.
As before, there is no fixed launch date for the new streaming, nor new information on the name of the service or on how the transition to HBO Max and Discovery+customers will work.
