After the first season ended on HBO Max, fans of “House of the Dragon” pointed out that it has identical scenes to “Shrek”, but now they have drawn comparisons to the series’ story and a Marvel movie.
According to fans online, “House of the Dragon” and 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok” would be essentially the same thing, with similar events driving the plot and equal motivations between their main characters.
Here we show you the similarities in the background of both producers and how the Targaryens have a lot in common with the family feud between the brothers Thor, Loki and Hela.
Rhaenyra and Hela were disqualified as heirs
In the Marvel film, it is discovered that Hela is Odin’s firstborn and thus his heir to rule Asgard, but her desire for conquest and violence causes Odin to imprison her in Hel.
While in “House of the Dragon”, Rhaenyra is named heir to the Iron Throne when Viserys dies, but because she is a woman, many in the Seven Kingdoms are opposed to her being queen.
In both stories both women are stripped of their right to rule, with Hela breaking out of her prison to discover that Thor has been named the new heir to Asgard.
While Rhaenyra discovers that after her father’s death, her former friend Alicent and House Hightower usurped the throne and installed her half-brother Aegon II Targaryen as king.

The king’s death in “House of the Dragon” and “Thor: Ragnarok” unleashes the conflict
The movie “Thor: Ragnarok” shows Thor and Loki trying to find their father Odin (Anthony Hopkins), but when the ruler of Asgard dies, Hela seeks to take the throne.
In “House of the Dragon” the death of King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine, who can be seen in ‘Blitz’ for free and in Spanish on ViX) also sparks the conflict between Rhaenyra and Alicent in search of the Iron Throne.
Odin and Viserys were rulers who tried at all costs to keep peace in their realms and that their children did not fight for power. In Odin’s case, he realized that peace was the only way and taught Thor how to be a good king.
While Viserys was characterized as a peaceful ruler, he always tried to resolve differences between his relatives and until his death remained steadfast in his decision to name Rhaenyra as his heir.
‘House of the Dragon’, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and the battle for the throne
In both the HBO series and the Marvel Thor movies, the conflict over who will rule their respective kingdoms takes place between family members who have different perspectives on how to rule.
From the first movie “Thor” you can see that Thor and Loki competed to see who will stay as the king of Asgard, but with the appearance of Hela, the half-sister of the two of them complicated this power struggle even more.
In “House of the Dragon” Rhaenyra’s right has been challenged and not only is her half-brother Aegon II her claimant for the Iron Throne, but so is her uncle/husband Daemon.
Even among the Green group, which consists of the children of Alicent, it has been seen that Aemond Targaryen, the brother of the new king Aegon II, believes that he is the best candidate to rule.
Rhaenyra and Hela cause their kingdoms to decline
In “Thor: Ragnarok” Hela’s hunger for power and tyranny causes Asgard to fall into ruins and must be destroyed by the fire giant Surtur to stop the villain.
This makes the Asgardians homeless and later many of these survivors perish when attacked by Thanos. It even marks the end of Odin’s bloodline, with Thor passing his role to Valkyrie.
In “House of the Dragon” Lucerys Velaryon’s death causes Rhaenyra’s mother to go to war with everything and start the Dance of the Dragons, an event that almost kills these creatures and creates chaos in Westeros.
Rhaenyra, in her quest to assert her right as queen, makes increasingly bloodthirsty decisions, and civil war in the Seven Kingdoms means House Targaryen in the events of “Game of Thrones” is in decline.
