The actresses of the fifth season of ‘The Crown’, Imelda Staunton and Lesley Manville, have revealed one of their scenes from the Netflix serieswhich follows a “shocking“confrontation between Princess Margaret and the Queen.
In the fourth episode of the last season, Margarita (Manville) is moved to remember her old lost love for Peter Townsend.
Talking with Digital Spy and other media, Staunton and Manville described the depth of this powerful scene, with Manville assuring that it is a “remarkable moment” of his experience filming the series.
“I loved doing that scene. It is one of the moments that I would highlight the most,” commented Manville, who took over from Helena Bonham Carter in her role. “I have known Imelda for many, many decades and we are friends. ANDIt’s amazing when you go on a set and you know you have this big, important scene about the story of Margarita and Isabel.“
“Simply I knew we were going to have a great day. We had been shooting for a while at the time, but it was probably the most meaningful scene we had ever done together. So, you get that emotion, you know? The script was so good… I loved learning it and turning it over in my head,“concluded the interpreter.
Staunton, who took over the role of Queen Elizabeth II after Olivia Colman, commented that this scene was good despite “not have much to say“, describing her as a “great example of writing“.
“It’s good because I think it defines their relationship… She knows that Margarita’s life has been difficult and there’s nothing she can do,” He said.
“This is a great example of writing by Peter [Morgan] and I love that she’s honest, I think, with her relationship. Isabel did not defend herself. I feel that she is honest with them.”
Season 5 of ‘The Crown’ is now available on streaming on Netflix. All previous seasons are available on Netflix.
