Star Harrison Ford, now 70, will be rejuvenated by visual effects in ‘Indiana Jones 5’. The information is contained in an Empire magazine report on the film.
The young version of the actor has been digitally recreated by the company Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and will appear in a flashback, facing the Nazis during World War II, before the plot moves to the 1960s, the era of the narration central.
Various techniques were employed to alter the actor’s appearance, including new ILM software, which sifted through existing footage of the young Harrison Ford before merging it with freshly shot scenes. “My hope is that […] you look at it and think, “Oh my god, they found some lost footage.” This was something they filmed 40 years ago,'” producer Kathleen Kennedy told Empire.
Harrison Ford himself guaranteed that “Indiana Jones 5” will mark a new moment for the use of this type of technology. “It’s kind of scary. I don’t even think I want to know how it works, but it works,” he said.
Directed by James Mangold (“Logan”), the film also stars Boyd Holbrock (“Logan”), Mads Mikkelsen (“Druk – One More Round”), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (” Uncharted” ), Toby Jones (“A Boy Called Christmas”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Avengers: Age of Ultron”) and Shaunette Renée Wilson (“The Resident”) in the cast.
It is scheduled to premiere on June 29, 2023 in Brazil, one day ahead of the US release.
