President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to decide on the name of Petrobras’ new president by early December, Senator Jean Paul Prates (PT-RN), a member of the energy sector transition group, said on Tuesday.
Prates told Reuters that he handed a memorandum to Lula and told him about the importance of appointing the new CEO of the oil company by early December.
“He (Lula) knows, from Egypt he planned to talk to me. It was supposed to be yesterday, but he postponed it because of the operation, so it should be tomorrow (Wednesday),” she said.
“He has until the beginning of December to do it on a regular basis. I think he will make a decision by then. If not, there are other ways, alternatives, to make the change,” he added.
In a press conference, another member of the transitional government’s Energy group, former Energy Research Company (EPE) president Maurício Tolmasquim, said the team had asked the current Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida , that the sale processes of Petrobras assets are suspended until the elected government chooses a new minister.
Tolmasquim also said that he did not discuss Petrobras’ fuel pricing policy at the meeting, which is based on import parity pricing.
