Quentin Tarantino said there are no more movie stars because of the “wonder” of Hollywood.
“You have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters,” Tarantino explained on the 2 Bears 1 Cave podcast. “But I’m not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say this. I think that’s been said countless times… but, you know, it’s these characters in the franchise that become a star.”
“My only ‘axe’ to ‘grind’ against them is that they are the only things that seem to be done,” he added. “And they’re the only things that seem to generate any kind of excitement among the fans or even the studio that makes them. That’s why they are enthusiastic. So it’s just the fact that they’re all representations of this era of cinema now. There isn’t much room for anything else. This is my problem.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed the studio’s plans for Marvel’s Phases 5 and 6 at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, with projects spanning years to come.
“Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever” just hit theaters and is already close to reaching $550 million at the global box office. It’s safe to say: Marvel is hugely profitable for Hollywood, and it’s not going away anytime soon.
Tarantino previously told the Los Angeles Times that he would never direct a Marvel film, stating that “you have to be hired to do these things. I’m not hired. I’m not looking for a job.”
